Snoring on the R Train and More (Thursday, 3-12-09)

Not just dozed off, but emitting an audible snore, the kind of sleep that makes you wake up in Forest Hills last stop on the R an hour later wondering where the hell you are.

Women on the 3 train. Don't think I fully captured the perfect Hot-Pinkness of the scarf and hat of the woman on the left - they were sizzling.

Ho-hum, 1 train, yawn.

Wednesday, 3-11-09 - Brooklyn Bound

Waiting on the 1 at Houston, she had a pretty impressive hair bun.

Sweaty dude leaning back on the 1 and the the switch to the 2. The woman reading was lounging and reading in a posture more often observed in a parisian sidewalk cafe then on the 2 train to Brooklyn.

It seems as if looking over my drawings that the demographic of subway riders is heavily majority female. Never really thought about it but I have so many drawings which are all women - not the individual portraits maybe but when I do the group shot. Gonna investigate, maybe Dick Ravitch knows.

Silver Headphones on the N (Tuesday, 3-10-09)

Quick sketch on R train. Woman in foreground had her little child, snuggled up on her asleep was a very adorable moment but by the time I noticed it was impossible to work that in in this low format. Included the less adorable dude behind her instead.

Was jealous of his shiny silver headphones as i pulled mine out and realized one of the earbuds had completely fallen apart, yet another victim of my jungle of a pocket.

Monday Night at Chambers Street (3-9-09)

On the late side ended being kind of a wait at Chambers - long enough for the lady in the brown coat on the left to tire and grab wood on the right side of the bench. 2 showed up packed Sardini style, didn't get any more drawing done.

Blue Jacket, Red Coat, Morning Commute - 2 Train, 1 Train (Monday, 3-9-09)

Perusing a big brown book, looking very Talmudic.

More of the woman in blue jacket and red jacket. Woman in blue had an all around paleness to her, skin and hair, except for a bright red cheek

Indicative of the odd social interaction of the subway, intense looks in close quarters but with almost no interaction.

Man in suit with heavy brow that gave him a tough guy look.

Scanning for Prey on the 2 Train (Friday, 3-6-09)

The woman on the left had big owl like eyes, and every once in a while would scan the car, stopping me in my tracks as if I were a field mouse.

4 women on the 2. Problem with these wide drawings is blogger shrinks 'em down - so click through to see in their full glory!

3 Train, 3-6-09

4 women on the 3 train.

Continuation from the Orange scarf.

Under the big hat reading the paper on the 1.

New Kind of Sketchbook - Dope, Slothy Ride - Not so Dope (Thursday, 3-5-09)

So I ran out of my standard small storyboard moleskines so I picked up the landscape watercolor one that I had laying around the office and started messing around. Here's where it began.

Prince charming he was not, but was rocking the hair and strong brow.

Catching wideness with my new landscape canvas at Chambers street. Twas' a real bit of a wait, something must have been up with service.

So 2 Train was pretty mosh pit when I got on. There was some pushing and shoving accompanied by some groans. But this woman was taking it in stride wearing a "nothing is phasing me" expression.
Turning it 90 degrees. It gets a little awkward and somewhat unweildly but managed to catch some ceiling which I never do (its a bit of a yawner.)

More skyscaper
So was waiting way too long for a the R/M at Atlantic-Pacific, at least in rush-hour time. This whole commute was kind of a drag, hope this new style of book isn't a jinx.

Listening to Some Old DC Hardcore on the 3 from Grand Army (Wednesday, 3-4-09)

3 train rolling into Grand Army Plaza.

Woman in puffy white jacket next to guy making a bold fashion statement in his Wine colored coat and burgundy and orange striped hat with the dangling pom pom. He gave me a look or two which made my Douchebag sense tingle just a bit.

The green seemed teh only important color in the scene, looking past the reading woman out the back to the next 3 car. The rest seemed incidental.

Post Snow Day Morning on the 3-1 (Tuesday, 3-3-09)

I think the the elderly woman on the left was a repeat customer. I was intrigued by the way the guy on the right's chin seemed to be swimming in the niddle of his face.

The jacket on the right which I caught a piece of was a bubble but was made of some ridiculously shiny material which seemed lighter and less rigid than your standard bubble. It was like she had caught the three train from 10 years in the future.

Finishing up some dry ass markers on the 3.

This woman was very skillfully manipulating her fully spread NY Times while still managing to hold onto the glove and Gap bag on the 1.

1-2-R, Friday Evening (2-27-09)

Guys on the 1 having an animated conversation - well actually the guy on the right was doing most of the conversating. Finger was making a point, not meant to threaten.

I kinda expected the guy on the left to jump up and yell "Zoinks!" and then run off the car.

She actually reminded me of a roughened up version of Eartha Kitt (RIP).

Atlantic-Union on the R.

Friday, 2-27-09

Started with sleeping dude with straight black hair seemingly pouring out from his baseball hat. Then lady with baby snuck in. Baby got a raw deal as her face fell on the spine.

3 Women with Hats, 3 to the 1 (Tuesday, 2-24-09)

She was generally intent on her reading but every once in a while her eyes widened and snapped at me violently, as if they were firing some sort of warning shot - the fur brim which they were slightly tucked under did reduce the blow just a little. They scared me a little.

Very Nora Efron.

White jacket girl was rocking the "i'm all that" vibe, hot shades, green hat and all.

Bored (Monday, 2-23-08)

Houston street station yet again. I need to stop being so lazy and start dragging my ass back to west 4th. For a while I enjoyed the peace but now its getting boring. Maybe when it gets warmer.

The 1 train kinda sucks too, this guy agrees.

Started off with the woman on the left who's face drew me in. Then got into the guy in the left who's just slightly off white skin and pale yellow hair had interesting patches of red and orange.

The bright hat in the foreground was a bit of a shock to the rest of the colors on the train. Although the tweedy hat on the right had some fun stuff going on if you looked really close.

The 2 Train Fills Up (Monday, 2-23-09)

Girl on the 2 who caught on just as the car filled up at Nevins and I lost sight of her.

And turned to this guy with the Afro-Hawk and the snazzy collar. Carhart ski cap in the foreground. Brought me back o when everyone was rocking carhart in the early 90s, good times.

Crinkling the paper on the 1.
