Riding in Late this Fine Wednesday Morning (4-9-08)

After getting home from the office at about 3AM, decided to take it easy and ride in around 11. Good drawin' time.
Quickie on platform at Borough Hall. The PA said the train was all the way at Atlantic, so thought I had some time, but it appeared just a few moments later.

Teenage couple, boy chilling out on bench, girl bouncing around in front of him.

Woman with fab-yoo-luss sunglasses behind...

Early Tuesday Morning (4-8-08)

Trying to get into work early, but unfortunately not early enough as it was another morning with no good drawing spot, so these are two more pole leaners...

Ride out to the Mechanic (4-7-08)

Ran out to 4th ave again to get the car before they closed up shop at 5. Hard time finding drawing perch. Finally found awkward drawing position Bowling Green to Atlantic.

4 Train Friday Night (4-4-08)

The column separating uptown and downtown platforms at GC40deuce.

hipster with crazy hair, mustache and soul patch wearing a nice blue button down and tie. there was another dude in the car who was hopped upon on something had some conversation with him and this guy ended up lending him a lighter. the high guy walke down the car and then came back a few minutes later and returned the lighter, not sure what purpose it serve d as I had my headphones on and only caught snippits of conversation. the second guy then complimented me on my drawing and went on for a few minutes how he could have hooked me up with a job drawing children books if only we had met a few days earlier....

Brooklyn Afternoon Sprint (Friday, 4-4-08)

Had to run mission to Brooklyn 220 Friday afternoon and be back in midtown at 4 for meeting.

Caught the 5, this kid was catching afternoon catnap.

Big fur colar.5 terminated at Bowling Green. This guy took a quick stretch on the fence in this blindingly red station waiting for the Brooklyn 4.

4 Train to Atalntic Ave.

Did my biz and back on at Borough Hall.

Was drawing this big guy for a little while. He kept glaring over at me and I got the feeling he was close to stepping to me, but he wasn't quite sure what to make of the situation. I used my old skill of looking right at someone without making eye contact like you were looking through them, a good skill to have riding the train in the 80s...The rest of the ride continued without incident, back to GC40Deuse at 353.

Thursday Post Opening, Riding Home with A Few Cups of Red in Me (4-3-08)

For some reason been noticing people getting a little thumb ill on their PDAs these days, decided to call this one out here....

The mountain man of the 3 train. This dude was rocking the long hair and giant beard that would have emasculated Uncle Jesse, also had the big portable CD player and some extra discs in hand. A policeman came in at Fulton and immediately started eyeing this dude, I guess trying to figure out what to make of him. It was as if he though there must be something amiss with such a character, but the dude was just riding peacefully and listening to some tunes. I was planning on getting a quick sketch of the cop too, thought it'd make for interesting narrative, but alas the party was over at Clark St. where everyone hopped off.

Thursday Night Detour to Tribeca (4-3-08)

Rolled to my uncle's photo show on No. Moore after work on the ... 42nd st shuttle to Times Sq...

...the always bountiful platform at Times Sq...

...grabbed the 3....

...and off at Chambers.

YAAAAAAAWN, Thursday Morning (4-3-08)

Everyone slept in this AM (except Jojo, he was just ignored :( ), so it was a late lazy ride in.
High street platform.

Guy reading and a bunch of head tops on the 4.

She had a good caricature face, just a couple of quick strokes and I had her. Anything else was just gravy...

Wednesday Night on the 4 (4-2-08)

Now that we have some extra daylight, trying to get home in time to run the boy a bit before bedtime. Got down to crowded platform and expected some serious sardine time, but thankfully, car was pretty light...
...although crowded enough for guy in foreground to bounce around in front of me like he hadn't a care in the world.

He was very still and rocking the unusual hat - a mixture of bowler and fishermen's. She was playing with her fingers.

And there was ONE woman here on this 4 train perpetuating the Pat Benatar look.

Wednesday Morning (4-2-08)

Quick sketch on Fulton Platform.
This guy was doing some bionic man thumb moves on his organizer.

The fluid sea of folks on the 4.

Tuesday PM Rush on the 5 (4-1-08)

Much movement. This guy was hiding under his hat most of the time, struggled to catch glimpses of his eyes.

This guy may live on in my drawings, probably to his chagrin.

Tuesday Morning Detour to Gowanus (4-1-08)

Had to run an errand B4 work over on 3rd ave.
Shared an otherwise empty car on the M to Union St. with these 2 orthodox women. The one on the left did most of the talking.

Afterwards walked up to Atalntic Ave. to catch 4 back to GC40Deuce. 2 ladies with lots of braids took little notice of me. This time it was the one on teh right who was chatty.

She was like a statue and here face had the look of being chiseled from stone, with very hard angled cheeks, chin and nose.

Last quick sketch as train roled into station. Have a hard time passing up drawing Hasidim. Not quite sure what he was doing, either writing or wrapping a present.

Monday Night on the 4 (3-31-08)

Riders this evening were particularly competitive for space. It wasn't packed but everybody seemed to want their own little terrritory.
I didn't get a good spot til the mass exodus at Fulton, although I started sketching this right before we rolled in there.

After that had a little more space to maneuver. She had a lot of hair rolling out from under her cap and he was rocking the pretty serious widow's peak.
